Ostrich Leather Profile
Ostrich has distinctive pock-marked quills and a naturally “oily” texture that allows the skin to get softer and more supple over time. The skin is outstanding in its luxury appeal because of its unique look and versatile applications for garments, wall coverings, furniture, car interiors, handbags, cushions/motorcycle seats and more.
For the last 20 years, we’ve worked directly with ostrich farmers and professional tanners in South Africa to make available the most extensive catalog of Ostrich colors available at fair wholesale prices. Tanning ostrich hide is a tricky process as each quill mark needs to be buffed correctly to prevent any holes or unintentional marks in the material; our U.S. revolving stock of ostrich maintains thousands of luxury grade ostrich skins in all the current colors and finishes in the international marketplace.
Sizing for Ostrich Hides
All ostrich hides are standard priced by each individual hide. Most ostrich skins are approximately 16.5 sq ft of material, with an estimated 7 square foot of premium quill with a average medallion diamond shape of 28 inches x 28 inches. Ensure that when purchasing ostrich that you allow your pattern to accommodate for the desired quill usage. More than half of the skin from the outside of the center will be smooth without quill.
Always know the width you need before making a purchase.
