Our stocked and ready to ship caiman crocodilus fuscus, belly and hornback skins are sourced and legally imported from South America. Caiman crocodile skins are a great alternative for those on a fixed budget who want a genuine skin with a similar appearance to alligator or crocodile, and is often known as economical crocodile. The wide availability of caiman skins translates into a large variety of stocked colors and finishes in both belly and hornback ready to ship. Consider using caiman on your next project or in your production of leather goods such as shoes, belts, handbags, motorcycle, saddle seats, or car interior. Caiman crocodiles can be 200 – 500% less expensive than American Alligator, Nile Crocodile, and Porous Crocodile. Caiman can be used as a substitute for alligator or crocodile for those just getting started or with budget constraints. Caiman skins tend to be stiffer and thicker the larger they grow limiting the skins in garment production and folding and stitching the boney outer edges.

Sizing for Caiman Hides

Caiman hides are valued by measuring the hide at its widest point across the widest section of the abdomen. Rojé standard caiman sizing comes in four sizes from Medium to XXL. Similar to carat sizing with diamonds, the width of a caiman skin is the determining factor for the rarity and price. For example, an XXL Grade 1 hide is exponentially more rare and thus more valuable than a Medium width hide. The larger the skin, the higher the likelihood of defects and the more food the animal consumes. Here is how we rate our standard sizes for caiman:

Always know the width you need before making a purchase. We want you to have a smooth and hassle-free experience shopping with us. Legalities and Conservation

Caiman skins are protected by US Fish and Wildlife regulations and CITES Appendix II. Caiman are prevalent in the swamps and coastal regions of Central and northern South America. crocodilus fuscus are fully protected in some countries (Ecuador, Mexico and Venezuela for example), with legal regulated trading in others (such as Colombia and Panama). We’ve found through our experiences that protection is rarely enforced effectively.

We respect the biodiversity and the health of the species, and Rojé only procures our raw skins from certified farmers and harvesters with strictly managed quotas and stringently follow international CITES and U.S. Fish and Wildlife regulations. All skins traded and purchased from Rojé are 100% legal.
